We arrived in Madrid planning to go to our hotel,
sleep and head straight out the next day for the battlefield in Salamanca. We'd heard that
Madrid wasn't really worth it, but next day we went for a quick wander and discovered the
Palacio Real which was incredible. We decided it was weirdo party buffs who thought Madrid
was dull, and looked up our trusty Lonely Planet guide for a historical walking tour.
